• Since I’ll be on the move soon, downsizing has been necessary. I didn’t want to part ways with my jar of inaugural hearth ashes because it’s one of the few objects in my apartment I have an emotional attachment to. This piece allows them to live on in a much more interesting and beautiful way, not to mention one that’s much easier to travel with. The urchin spines surrounding the ashes help tell the story of place for my first restaurant, as they are the consummate Pacific Northwest ingredient. Overall, I love the outcome and how layered the piece feels.
